Patrick McNulty
South Padre Island Mayor
Native Texan Patrick McNulty has officially filed for reelection for South Padre Island Mayor on July 21st, 2020.
“It has been 13 months since I was sworn in as the Mayor of City of South Padre Island, which has been the highest honor. It is amazing how fast time has flown by.
I am excited to announce on July 21st, I filed for re-election as your Mayor. We have accomplished a lot over the last 13 months and am looking forward to accomplishing much more if I am re-elected.”
Some of the many goals are the following:
- Re-development of Laguna Blvd either through the BUILD grant or alternate financing.
- Development of a Public Boat Ramp with parking, through the Restore Grant
- Completion of the Wind and Water Sports Park, with Venue Tax Funds
- Completion of the Skate Park at Tompkins Park through TPWD Grant
- Developing a clear path for a 2nd Causeway working with the MPO
- Completing the Comprehensive Plan
I hope this election is focused on the positives of OUR Island!
If you have any questions or concerns, I am always available.
Let’s “Keep OUR Island moving forward, TOGETHER!”
A Vision For The Future

Right out of the gate, after the election, I am going to propose a joint workshop with CVB and City Council to discuss Youth Sports Tourism for South Padre Island. This has been a major passion that I have been bringing up for years.
Having a teenage son, nieces, and nephews, and many friends with children, it is amazing to see the amount of traveling that takes place for Youth Sports. We already have most of the pieces in place to ramp up our Youth Sports Tourism.
A perfect example of a Youth Sports Tourism event in the fall is the AMTA Tournament which brings 3,000 individuals to the convention center and could arguably be our biggest event at the South Padre Island convention center. What would our Island be like if we had a tournament of this size every weekend? Imagine 100-300-500-1,000 families on this island every weekend, how could we pass that up?
Actionable Issues
My goal is to get South Padre back to its positive nature. We need to listen to our fellow citizens and make the best decisions for everyone. Our common goal is OUR Island. As a citizen of South Padre Island for over 20 years, I believe that we should do the following:
Get back to our charter. The Mayor, and city council, doesn’t run our Island. It is operated by our City Manager. This is a definite prescription from our City Charter.
.
Resolve our lack of decorum that has become a recent burden. Our council members, including our mayor, need to hold our residents, our city employees and our guest to the highest regards.

We have a convention center with a basketball court that we should be marketing more.
